Washington, DC – The Board of Equality PAC, a political action committee formed by leaders of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus, announced today their endorsement of Secretary Hillary Clinton to be the next president of the United States of America.
“The Equality PAC is thrilled to endorse Secretary Hillary Clinton’s campaign for the Presidency,” said Equality PAC Co-Chair Congressman Mark Takano (D-CA). “For more than 20 years, Secretary Clinton has worked to break down barriers for LGBT Americans and our families. In the Senate, she fought for employment non-discrimination and increased funding to combat HIV/AIDS. She helped lead the successful efforts to block a federal amendment banning marriage equality. As Secretary of State, she led the most LGBT-friendly State Department in American history. She ensured that State Department employees in same-sex relationships received the same rights as their colleagues, and made it easier for transgender Americans to acquire passports reflecting their true gender. As President, she will fight to pass the Equality Act and protect the gains we’ve made in recent years. Under President Obama, LGBT Americans have learned how important it is to have a president who will stand with us against those who would deny us equality. We will have the same sort of advocate in President Hillary Clinton, and so we are proud to endorse her in this campaign.”
“Equality PAC was formed to create the right environment in Washington to bring about full societal and legal equality for LGBT people,” said Equality PAC Managing Director Roddy Flynn. “Secretary Clinton has made LGBT equality a top priority in her campaign, and can be trusted to make equality a top priority when she is president. She has committed to fighting hard for comprehensive federal nondiscrimination protection, and we look forward to the day she signs the bipartisan Equality Act into law.”
The purpose of Equality PAC is to work to bring nearer the full legal and societal equality of LGBT persons and creating a legislative environment that is conducive to that goal. The Board of Directors includes Co-Chairs Representatives Jared Polis (D-CO) and Mark Takano (D-CA), who are also Co-Chairs of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus, and Board Members Representative David Cicilline (D-RI), also an LGBT Equality Caucus Co-Chair, Representative Dan Kildee (D-MI), a Vice-Chair of the Caucus, and Caucus members Suzan DelBene (D-WA), Elizabeth Esty (D-CT), Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), Joseph Kennedy, III (D-MA), Derek Kilmer (D-WA), Grace Meng (D-NY), and Gwen Moore (D-WI).
