Washington, DC – Today, Democrat Richard Neal – Massachusetts Congressman and Chairman of the powerful House Ways & Means Committee – received the endorsement of Equality PAC, the political action committee formed and led by leaders of the Congressional LGBTQ Equality Caucus. In today’s endorsement, Equality PAC highlighted Neal’s decades of work in support of full LGBTQ equality.
“As the father of an LGBTQ son, Chairman Neal fully understands the importance of LGBTQ rights and has been a steadfast straight ally in the fight for full equality”, said Equality PAC Co-Chair, Congressman David Cicilline (D-RI). “Chairman Neal is a co-sponsor of the Equality Act and the protecting LGBTQ Youth Act, but he has been an advocate for equal rights long before this recent legislation. He has been a thoughtful ally, filing an amicus brief against DOMA, consistently voting down constitutional amendments that seek to ban same-sex marriage. We are proud to endorse Chairman Neal’s re-election.”
“As the only LGBTQ Chairman of a full House standing committee, I have had the opportunity to watch Chairman Neal use his position to advance progressive democratic priorities and help our new members succeed”, said Equality PAC Co-Chair and House Veterans’ Affairs Committee Chairman, Congressman Mark Takano. “He has been a mentor and ally to the LGBTQ members of the Democratic Caucus. Equality PAC is proud to support Chairman Neal and we look forward to continuing to work with him in the future as we pass the Equality Act into law and advance the priorities of our community.”
Congressman Richie Neal serves as the people’s representative in the United States Congress from the First Congressional District of Massachusetts, representing 87 cities and towns in the western and central part of the state. As Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, Congressman Neal has jurisdiction over all tax and trade issues, Social Security, and Medicare. Additionally, Congressman Neal is the Dean of the New England Congressional Delegation, where he brings the regional issues and perspectives of New England’s six states to the forefront of the Congressional agenda.
Equality PAC is dedicated to bringing nearer the full legal and societal equality of LGBTQ people and creating a federal legislative environment conducive to that goal. All funds raised into Equality PAC are spent supporting and electing openly LGBTQ individuals and strong LGBTQ allies to the United States Congress who are committed to passing the Equality Act and to ensuring full civil rights and protections for all LGBTQ individuals. We look forward to electing a record number of LGBTQ Americans to Congress this November who will stand with Joe Biden in the ongoing fight for equality as we continue to seek a more perfect union.
