Equality PAC Celebrates Introduction of Equality Act

Washington, DC – Today, Equality PAC celebrated the introduction of the Equality Act by Ranking Member and Equality PAC Co-Chair Mark Takano (D-CA). The Equality Act prohibits discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity in areas including public accommodations and facilities, education, federal funding, employment, housing, credit, and the jury system.

“To end discrimination against members of the LGBTQ community, we absolutely must pass the Equality Act,” said Equality PAC Co-Chairs Ranking Member Mark Takano (D-CA) and Congressman Ritchie Torres (D-NY). “This important and essential legislation explicitly protects LGBTQ Americans and allows them to live their lives free of fear. At a time when attacks against the LGBTQ community, especially against the trans community, are at an all-time high, the Equality Act is needed now more than ever before. We urge House and Senate leadership to swiftly pass this bill and send it to President Biden’s desk for his signature.”

Equality PAC is the political arm of the Congressional LGBTQ Equality Caucus and is dedicated to the full legal and societal equality for LGBTQ Americans. All funds raised into Equality PAC are spent supporting and electing openly LGBTQ individuals and strong LGBTQ allies to the United States Congress who are committed to passing the Equality Act and to ensuring full civil rights and protections for all LGBTQ Americans.
