Washington, DC – Today, Equality PAC Co-Chairs Chairman Mark Takano (D-CA) and Congressman David Cicilline (D-RI)released the following statement celebrating congressional passage of the Respect for Marriage Act. The bill now goes to President Biden for his signature.
“Through this historic vote, Congress has affirmed the right to marry for gay and interracial couples,” said Equality PAC Co-Chairs Chairman Mark Takano and Congressman David Cicilline.“We want to thank every member of Congress, in the House and Senate, that voted for this commonsense legislation that gives security to millions of families across the nation. Respect for marriages is a family value which should never be threatened. While we look forward to President Biden signing this critical piece of legislation, we must continue to do more to protect marriages and the LGBTQ community. This means passing the Equality Act and doing everything in our power to end discrimination and hate directed towards LGBTQ Americans.”
