Washington, DC – Today, Equality PAC Co-Chairs Chairman Mark Takano (D-CA) and Congressman David Cicilline (D-RI) released a statement following House passage of H.R. 3485, the Global Respect Act. This bipartisan legislation requires the President to prevent individuals who violate the human rights of LGBTQ people from entry into the United States and would codify reporting on the human rights of LGBTQ individuals. Equality PAC Co-Chair Congressman David Cicilline is the sponsor of this legislation.
“LGBTQ rights are human rights and with the Global Respect Act, the United States will finally be able to fully stand up for LGBTQ rights around the world,” said Equality PAC Co-Chairs Chairman Mark Takano and Congressman David Cicilline. “At a time when nations across the globe are taking steps harm LGBTQ communities, the United States has a moral responsibility to protect all LGBTQ individuals at home and abroad. We urge the Senate to quickly pass this critical legislation and send it to President Biden’s desk for his signature.”
