Washington, DC – Today, Equality PAC announced their endorsement of California State Assemblymember Evan Low for California’s 16th Congressional District. Low is running to replace Congresswoman Anna Eshoo who announced her retirement at the end of the 118th Congress. California’s 16th Congressional District is considered a safe Democratic seat and is the home of Silicon Valley.

As our community faces numerous threats, we need experienced policymakers like Evan that understand how to move our equality agenda forward to protect LGBTQ Americans in every corner of our nation.”

Evan Low is a fourth generation Californian, born and raised in Silicon Valley. He attended great public schools in Campbell and went on to earn degrees from De Anza Community College and San Jose State. Evan broke barriers in 2006 as the first Asian‐American, openly gay, and one of the youngest people ever elected to City Council. His trailblazing continued in 2009, becoming the youngest Asian‐American Mayor in the nation. In 2014, Evan’s dedication to improving lives and delivering results led him to the California Assembly where he marked another milestone as the youngest Asian‐American legislator in the body’s history. As past Chair of the LGBTQ+ Caucus, Evan led the charge on marriage equality and protecting civil rights here and across the country.
Equality PAC’s mission is simple: to elect more LGBTQ+ persons to Congress — individuals who will have a seat at the table, impact the debate, and humanize the LGBTQ community’s concerns. All the funds we raise are used to elect and re-elect LGBTQ persons to Congress and secondarily support strong LGBTQ community allies who will proudly and unapologetically stand with us in the fight to pass the Equality Act and equal protection under our nation’s laws.
