Washington, DC – Today, Equality PAC Co-Chair Ranking Member Mark Takano (D-CA) released the following statement on Congressman David Cicilline’s decision to resign from Congress on June 1, 2023. Cicilline will move on to serve as President and CEO of the Rhode Island Foundation.
“Since his start in Congress in 2011, Congressman David Cicilline has worked tirelessly to protect, defend, and expand LGBTQ rights,” said Equality PAC Co-Chair Ranking Member Mark Takano. “This includes drafting and advocating for passage of the Equality Act, landmark legislation that will enshrine numerous LGBTQ rights into law and prevent discrimination towards our community. As an Equality PAC Co-Chair, Congressman Cicilline has helped mentor and raise millions for LGBTQ congressional candidates and allies over multiple election cycles, helping elect some of the most pro-equality majorities in history.
