Washington, DC – Today, Equality PAC Co-Chairs Chairman Mark Takano (D-CA) and Congressman David Cicilline (D-RI) slammed the Republican Party’s response to the mass shooting that occurred at Club Q, an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The shooting left five dead and over 18 injured.
“Since the tragic shooting at Club Q — an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs, CO — we have witnessed Republicans employ deplorable and shameful tactics to shift blame from the undeniable fact that their rhetoric clearly contributed to the motivation for this hate crime and the tragic loss of innocent lives in our community,” said Equality PAC Co-Chairs Chairman Mark Takano and Congressman David Cicilline. “MAGA extremists — and the Republicans who enable them — continue to place a target on the backs of LGBTQ Americans, claiming they are “grooming” young children or engaging in unlawful behavior. These claims are baseless. Such language is homophobic and transphobic slander — period. And nothing could be further from the truth. Like all Americans, the LGBTQ community seeks to live their lives in peace and free from violence. The constant and malicious harassment from the Republican Party is unacceptable and their rhetoric is dangerous. This continued behavior will only lead to more pain for the LGBTQ community and more lives lost.”
