Equality PAC Celebrates Congressman-Elect Robert Garcia’s Win in California’s 42nd Congressional District

Washington, DC – Today, Equality PAC Co-Chairs Chairman Mark Takano (D-CA) and Congressman David Cicilline (D-RI) released the following statement celebrating Congressman-Elect Robert Garcia’s win in California’s 42nd Congressional District election. Upon his swearing in, Garcia will be the first openly LGBTQ immigrant elected to Congress and the first openly LGBTQ Peruvian American elected to Congress. He will also join Congressman David Cicilline as only the second openly LGBTQ mayor to ever serve in Congress.

“We are excited to welcome Congressman-Elect Garcia into the Equality Caucus in January and are proud of the successful campaign he and his team ran,” said Equality PAC Co-Chairs Chairman Mark Takano and Congressman David Cicilline. “As an immigrant, Congressman-Elect Garcia brings an important voice to our caucus and the Congress. In addition, his experience as a mayor is desperately needed as we decide how to move our equality agenda through the House. We look forward to working with Congressman-Elect Garcia to advance LGBTQ rights and help us pass the Equality Act in the next Congress.”

Equality PAC is the political arm of the Congressional LGBTQ Equality Caucus and is dedicated to the full legal and societal equality for LGBTQ Americans. All funds raised into Equality PAC are spent supporting and electing openly LGBTQ individuals and strong LGBTQ allies to the United States Congress who are committed to passing the Equality ACT and to ensuring full civil rights and protections for all LGBTQ Americans.
