Washington, DC – Today, Equality PAC Co-Chairs Chairman Mark Takano (D-CA) and Congressman David Cicilline (D-RI) released the following statement celebrating Congresswoman-Elect Becca Balint’s win in Vermont’s At-Large Congressional District election. Balint will succeed Congressman Peter Welch, who was elected to serve Vermont in the United States Senate. Upon her swearing in, Balint will be the first woman to represent Vermont at the federal level and be the first openly LGBTQ Member of Congress from the Green Mountain State.
“We are excited to welcome Congresswoman-Elect Balint into the Equality Caucus in January and we are incredibly proud of the successful campaign she and her team ran,” said Equality PAC Co-Chairs Chairman Mark Takano and Congressman David Cicilline. “Equality PAC came in early to support Congresswoman-Elect Balint – nearly a year ago when she first announced her campaign and when her main opponent was a well-funded statewide office holder. Becca represents one of Equality PAC’s greatest success stories and she is a perfect example of how Equality PAC supporters have the power to change the direction of a race. We look forward to working with Congressman-Elect Balint to advance equality and help us pass the Equality Act and do so much more in the next Congress.”
Equality PAC is the political arm of the Congressional LGBTQ Equality Caucus and is dedicated to the full legal and societal equality for LGBTQ Americans. All funds raised into Equality PAC are spent supporting and electing openly LGBTQ individuals and strong LGBTQ allies to the United States Congress who are committed to passing the Equality ACT and to ensuring full civil rights and protections for all LGBTQ Americans.
