Equality PAC Endorses Jon Hoadley for Congress
Cites “a career of fighting for, and advancing full LGBT equality”
Kalamazoo, MI – Today, Democrat Jon Hoadley received the endorsement of Equality PAC, the political action committee formed by leaders of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus. In today’s endorsement, the powerful political group highlighted Hoadley’s work for LGBT equality.
“Jon Hoadley’s strong track record fighting for, and advancing full LGBT equality in Michigan, and is exactly the type of progressive champion we need in our fight for full equality,” saidEquality PAC Co-Chair and Rhode Island Congressman David Cicilline. “From his time as leading the Stonewall Democrats and his work to bring LGBT protections to Southwest Michigan while at the helm of the One Kalamazoo campaign, to his tenure in the Michigan Legislature Jon Hoadley has been a tireless fighter for full LGBT equality and progressive values.”
“Jon Hoadley will be the first LGBTQ Michigander in Congress, and we’re proud to stand with him in this historic fight,” said Equality PAC Co-Chair and California Congressman MarkTakano. “Michiganders clearly value and celebrate diversity in their state, and deserve a Congressperson who will stand up for everyone’s rights and vote to finally pass the Equality Act. I’m confident Jon will be a proud voice for all Michiganders, regardless of the color of their skin, their gender, or whom they love and look forward to serving with him.”
“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of Equality PAC,” said Hoadley. “ Throughout my career, I’ve been working hard to make sure everyone is treated fairly and equally. In Congress, I’ll proudly fight to ensure the LGBTQ community has the same opportunities as our neighbors.”
Equality PAC is the political arm of the Congressional LGBTQ Equality Caucus and is dedicated to the full legal and societal equality for LGBTQ Americans. All funds raised into Equality PAC are spent supporting and electing openly LGBTQ individuals and strong LGBTQ allies to the United States Congress and Senate who are committed to passing the Equality Act and to ensuring full civil rights and protections for all LGBTQ individuals.
Last year, Equality PAC made history by helping to elect Senator Kyrsten Sinema (Arizona), re-electing Senator Tammy Baldwin (WI), and electing three new Members of Congress: Angie Craig (MN), Chris Pappas (NH), and Sharice Davids (KS). In total, Equality PAC contributed nearly $3m towards the effort to flip the House during the midterm elections and plans to continue building on that progress in the 2020 elections with endorsed LGBT candidates in open Democratic seats in California, New York, and New Mexico and an open-Republican seat in Texas.
Jon Hoadley would be the first LGBT member of Congress elected from Michigan. Jon comes from a family of educators and a tradition of public service. Jon graduated from Michigan State University and worked as an organizer and advocate, ultimately starting a small business that works with community organizations and non-profit groups to promote civil rights, economic justice and clean air and water. Jon and his partner Kris live in Kalamazoo with the world’s friendliest beagle, Benjamin. As a Representative to the Michigan House, Jon has worked with folks in the community to invest in education, build an economy that works for everyone, the fight for social justice and full equality for all, and a clean environment.
