Equality PAC Endorses Georgette Goméz for Congress
Cites “a life dedicated to making a real difference in her community”
SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – Today, San Diego City Council President and Democratic congressional candidate Georgette Goméz received the endorsement of Equality PAC, the political action committee formed by leaders of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus. In today’s endorsement, the powerful political group highlighted Goméz work for LGBT equality and her historic candidacy.

Equality PAC is the political arm of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus and is dedicated to the full legal and societal equality for LGBT Americans. All funds raised into Equality PAC are spent supporting and electing openly LGBT individuals and strong LGBT allies to the United States Congress and Senate who are committed to passing the Equality Act and to ensuring full civil rights and protections for all LGBT individuals.
Last year, Equality PAC made history by helping to elect Senator Kyrsten Sinema (Arizona), re-electing Senator Tammy Baldwin (WI), and electing four new Members of Congress: Angie Craig (MN), Chris Pappas (NH), Katie Hill (CA), and Sharice Davids (KS). In total, Equality PAC contributed nearly $3m towards the effort to flip the House during the midterm elections and plans to continue building on that progress in the 2020 elections with endorsed LGBT candidates in open Democratic seats in California, New York, and New Mexico and an open-Republican seat in Texas.
The first LGBT Latina elected San Diego City Council President, Georgette’ Goméz’s legislative accomplishments include expanding affordable housing, strengthening protections for low-income renters, and leading implementation of the city’s landmark Climate Action Plan. A first generation Mexican-American and longtime community organizer, Georgette is a former associate director of the Environmental Health Coalition, where she advocated for stricter laws to protect kids from toxic chemicals.
Gómez, who announced her campaign to succeed retiring US Rep. Susan Davis last month, has quickly amassed a broad coalition of support and strong momentum in a short time. She has earned endorsements from Congressman Juan Vargas, California State Senate President Pro Tem Toni Atkins, Assembly members Todd Gloria and Lorena Gonzalez, Chula Vista Mayor Mary Salas, La Mesa Mayor Mark Araposthasis and a number of San Diego’s leading local labor unions, including the Carpenters, Laborers, Hotel Workers Union, and Service Employees International Union of California. Goméz earned an overwhelming 67% of the vote at the California Democratic Party’s pre-endorsement conference earlier this month.
